Ink & toner are two different things. Toner is a powder used in laser printers and photocopiers in order to form text as well as images on the printed paper. On the other hand, an ink cartridge is a replaceable component of an ink jet printer, which contains the ink and sometimes even the print-head itself, that is spread on paper during printing. The ink cartridge contains liquid ink. Each ink cartridge contains one or more partitioned ink reservoirs and some manufacturers add electronic contacts and a chip, which can communicate with the printer.
Printing with printer ink is similar to writing on paper with a pen. The printer puts ink on the paper and then applies pressure to the ink, which makes it to stick to the paper. But when printing with a toner, the printer does not use pressure to print. Toner is a fine powder, which is applied to the paper and a laser is used to burn the toner onto the paper.
Toner composition differs according to the manufacturer as well as the system, because particle size affects the resolution. The smaller the toner particles, the better the resolution will be. Toner particles with uniform sizes and shapes causes better colour of the images being printed while many people prefer inkjets because of their low costs. An ink cartridge is replaceable, as the ink jet cartridges are compact products, which can fit in the palm of your hand. These are the basic difference between ink & toner.
